How often do we run Home Shows?

Why EENZ Runs One Auckland and Two Canterbury Home Shows Each Year

At Exhibitions and Events New Zealand (EENZ), we’re passionate about connecting homeowners with the best in renovation, design, and lifestyle solutions. Our Home Shows are a cornerstone of that mission—and after years of experience and feedback, we’ve found that hosting one show annually in Auckland and two shows per year in Canterbury is the ideal balance for both our exhibitors and our audiences.

The Auckland Home Show – Big, Bold, and Once a Year

Held at the Auckland Showgrounds, the Auckland Home Show is our largest and most comprehensive event. Running once a year—typically in September—it draws tens of thousands of attendees and over 450 exhibitors. It’s a paid-entry event, and the ticketing structure helps us deliver a premium experience, with engaging seminars, curated exhibitor booths, and feature areas that offer genuine value.

Because of its scale, this show only needs to run once annually. For many exhibitors, it’s their biggest show of the year, and for attendees, it becomes a well-anticipated highlight on the home improvement calendar.

The Canterbury Home Shows – Local, Free, and Twice a Year

Canterbury, by contrast, benefits from two Home Shows each year, one in autumn and one in spring. These events, held at Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch, are completely free to attend, and this open access is a big part of their appeal.

By offering two shows annually, we can stay in sync with the seasons—helping Cantabrians plan their winter-proofing or take on summer renovation projects at just the right time. The twice-yearly format also creates more opportunities for local businesses to connect with their community and for homeowners to access fresh ideas and innovations throughout the year.

Why This Frequency Works

This structure isn’t just based on logistics—it’s the result of careful consideration and continual feedback from both exhibitors and attendees. Here’s why it works:

  • Audience Demand: Canterbury’s strong turnout and high engagement levels support two shows, while Auckland’s scale means a single, large event suffices.

  • Seasonal Timing: Two Canterbury shows mean we can address different needs throughout the year—whether it’s insulation in winter or landscaping in spring.

  • Exhibitor ROI: Our model ensures that businesses get maximum exposure in Auckland and multiple touchpoints in Canterbury, without burnout or oversaturation.

  • Community Access: Keeping Canterbury shows free helps remove barriers and encourages broad participation from across the region.

Ultimately, our goal is to offer high-quality, relevant, and well-timed events that serve homeowners and support the home improvement industry. Whether it’s one major event in Auckland or two free community-focused shows in Canterbury, this balance is one that continues to deliver strong results—for everyone involved.
